MARTINBOROUGH
HOTEL
Built
in 1882 by Edmund Buckeridge, the Martinborough Hotel was,
in his words " one of the finest hostelries that has ever
been erected in any inland country town in New Zealand ".
Since then, the hotel has had a succession of owners and the
building has seen many changes.
The most dramatic
change came in 1996 when the current owners purchased the
hotel and restored it to its former glory.
The Martinborough Hotel
stands at the heart of Martinborough
, one of New Zealand's finest wine making regions, approximately
one hour east of Wellington. Martinborough is conveniently
located on The Classic New Zealand Wine Trail , the new 380
km scenic touring route linking the wine regions of Hawkes
Bay, Martinborough and Marlborough

The
Martinborough Hotel has sixteen individually designed rooms,
some of which are named after Wairarapa's first settlers.
Comfortable beds with fine quality linen, luxurious fabrics
and plumpy armchairs provide the utmost comfort. Each suite
has a deep claw-footed bath or shower.
The Martinborough Hotel has a reputation
for good food and wine, served by friendly waiting staff in
the Bistrot and Settlers Bar. Diners can enjoy fine
cuisine and outstanding wines in the spacious Bistro,
which spills out under the verandah onto the historic town
square. In winter, a roaring open fire keeps pub-goers warm
in the friendly Settlers Bar, which houses a fine selection
of historic pictures of Martinborough
.
