TERRACE DOWNS HIGH COUNTRY RESORT

Nestled beneath the Southern Alps, Terrace Downs High Country Resort is one of the most splendid courses imaginable.

The setting is rural, yet only 50 minutes drive from Christchurch, with its cosmopolitan facilities and international airport. Close by are Mount Hutt, the highest winter playground in Australasia, and the Rakaia River, world renowned for salmon fishing and jet boating.

The awesome 6,500 metre course has achieved fulsome praise from golfers of all abilities from all around the world. The four-position tees, wide fairways, 70 bunkers and eight lakes are just part of the magic that can only be experienced by playing 'The Taniwha' ("the supernatural being").

The first is a 455 metre, double dogleg par 5 around a lake to a large undulating green guarded by a large pot bunker and the water.  This tells you that it is a thinking golfers course, a balance of risk and return!!

The eighth is "the taniwha", a 419 metre par 4.  Two good hits are essential and the green is deceptively placed.  The back nine is awesome. From the par 3 tenth tee you can view the back nine before playing down to the peninsula housing the green.  From there, the water beckons but with the great vistas a superb experience is guaranteed.

The facilities are just what you would expect.  The well appointed clubhouse overlooks the entire back nine and the magestic Southern Alps.
